Year 10 mock interview day last Friday huge success!
Article / Posted on 18 Jul 2024
It has been a busy few weeks for our Year Tens; they've had mock GCSE exams, Cadets summer camp, Duke of Edinburgh and the Summer Show the night before their mock interview.

Yet they were all brilliant in the mock interviews that took place for every year ten in the Nelson (Assembly) Hall last Friday. We had a host of employers who volunteered their time to help prepare our students for the world of work and it was fantastic! The students prepapred CVs, came well prepared and amazingly dressed - see the photos below. They may have been nervous going in, but emerged from the Hall standing tall. One candidate even got a contact at their interview for a future apprenticeship in the NHS.

This shows how useful the process is for students and we are hugely thankful to all the volunteer employers that took part. We've had some fantastic feedback from the employers involved:

"I  very much enjoyed my day. I have worked in HR for 30 years and I was impressed with your students. You would be surprised how few people can shake hands, smile, sit straight and look at you! The students were taking this very seriously and had been well prepared. They all could tell me 3 strengths and a weakness and answer the other questions.

My impression was of very well prepared students so someone (many people) had worked very hard at this."

"The Mock Interviews at Cheney School were well run and the students were very impressive. I look forward to working with you again in the future."

 Andy (RAF)

"I really enjoyed this experience and could see directly the benefit the students were getting from it. They were a credit to you all, and were engaged, polite and enthusiastic."

Debbie (Pharmacist)

"I just wanted to write to say how much I enjoyed the mock interview process with the year 10s last Friday. It was an absolute pleasure to meet the students. You must be so proud of them all. Their ability to communicate effectively was fantastic. They identified their points for improvement, the challenges they have faced in their lives with such maturity. I was blown away by their honesty and bravery with what they shared with me and how insightfully they talked about difficulties they had overcome. I was also very impressed with all the opportunities that the school has offered them and encouraged them to be involved with. These extra curricular opportunities had clearly enriched their skills and helped them to build confidence, self-esteem and inter-personal skills, importantly, they had also given them interesting experiences to share and talk about.

I felt, yet again, what a great school Cheney is and how glad I am that my son chose it as his secondary school.
I look forward to taking part again next year!"
