Cheney Student Poets Impress at Literary Fair
BackOn Saturday 6th July, Cheney School’s Creative Writing Club performed readings of their own original pieces at the Oxford Indie Book Fair at Magdalen College School, in collaboration with the Poetry Centre at Oxford Brookes University.
The students have worked hard all year, responding to prompts and writing exercises, and were the only youth readers in an adult lineup of high profile local poets. They shared pieces on the nature of love, a desire to be in the woods when it’s revision time, wonder at meteorites, the importance of human connections with the natural world and many more. All received resounding applause and were praised for their confidence and craft by Dr Niall Munro of Oxford Brookes, and members of the public.
Well done to Rosa Thompson (Year 7), George McKnight (Year 8), Kirsty McIntyre (Year 9), and El Johnson (Year 11).
