Thank you to everyone who took part in our Festival of Birds yesterday afternoon.

We had two beautiful owls and a turkey vulture for visitors to admire. There were rooms full of stalls and activities themed on birds and designed by our classics and museum students, with everything from birds in Greek myths, and birds in song lyrics, to bird nest darts and paper birds contest, red kite drawing, feather headbands, bird stones and quizzes!

We also had wonderful external visitors, including Oxford Ornithology Society, Peter Barker and RSPB, Natty Mark Samuels with African bird folklore and the Natural History Museum's Chris Jarvis, who brought a range of taxidermy birds. We were delighted to welcome artists Anna Lockwood and Lydia Hall. Anna brought some of her fascinating bird paintings for visitors to see, and Lydia ran a popular linocut bird activity. Richard Lawrence from the Bodleian Library brought a desk printing press and people were able to print coasters. We had beautiful bird-themed music from David and Finn in year 12, refreshments from Cheney Friends and face painting too. The Creative Writing Club produced a beautifully designed and written bird-inspired booklet which can be read here, and we also displayed all the bird prints and copies of The Birder, set in an alternate Oxford where people transform into birds.

We are very  grateful to all our visitors, students and stall runners for taking part in our celebration of birds!
