Cheney School A Level and BTEC Results 2024
Article / Posted on 15 Aug 2024

We are incredibly proud of our Year 13 students, and how well they have done in their A Level and BTEC exams. The absolute results are very good (and slightly up on last year), but the most important thing is the destinations for our students. We are very pleased with the apprenticeships or university places that our students have achieved, and we want to congratulate all our leavers on their hard work, and on getting great places for the next stage in their education.

There have been many successes today, and here are four examples of students who have achieved exceptional results:

  • Ahmed achieved 3 A* in maths, biology and chemistry, and an A* in his Extended Project Qualification, and has a place at Imperial to study molecular bio-engineering.

  • Anas achieved 4 A* in maths, further maths, computer science and physics and has a place at King’s College, London to study computer science.

  • Rosie achieved 4 A* in maths, further maths, product design and physics and has a place at Bristol to study maths.

  • Lucy achieved 2 A* in geography and history, an A in biology and an A* in her Extended Project Qualification and has a place at Edinburgh to study geography.

Headline figures:

  • A* - A: 29% (national average 27.6%)

  • A* - C: 81% (national average 76%)

  • Average A Level grade: B-

  • Average BTEC grade: Merit

  • 47 Russell Group offers (out of 92 from this year going directly to university)

  • 5 Oxford or Cambridge offers

  • 4 medicine or dentistry offers

It will be months before the official government figures are published, but based on last year’s results, Cheney is likely to be in the top 15% of schools for their absolute results (including selective and private schools) once again. There won’t be an official progress measure this year, because of Covid disruption to GCSEs for this cohort, but an estimated score of +0.38, based on the 2019 data set, would be likely to put Cheney in the best 3 or 4% of schools nationally for progress from GCSE.

Many congratulations to all our Year 13 students and the Sixth Form team on achieving such fantastic results! We wish all our students the very best in their future endeavours!
