Cheney Rowers Silver Medalists
BackDespite events earlier in the year impacted by injuries and poor weather, Cheney rowers in Year 9 and 11 at Falcon Boat Club came back strong at the prestigious Scullery Regatta this past May bank holiday, with all of the Falcon crews making it through to at least a B Final.
In the J16 (Year 11) quad event the crew which includes Cheney pupils Rupert and Raffy faced very strong opposition with the top 10 separated by less than 20 seconds in the heats as they went on to finish 11th overall in the finals. The J14 (Year 9) quad crew is all Cheney pupils Oscar, Ollie, Alex and Seb along with their cox John. Following a very strong row in the heats which saw them with the third fastest time, they stepped up in the final to produce a thrilling battle with Yarm School to take the silver medal on the line. A fantastic achievement that also saw them significantly close the gap to winners Henley compared to early season events and setting up some fantastic racing to come later this year.
The J14 crew will compete in the National Schools regatta next Friday 24th May where they have every chance to achieve similar success at a national level competition.
There has always been a close connection between Cheney and Falcon and the club encourages new members to take the opportunity to try out rowing in the welcoming and inclusive junior group at Falcon.
Falcon Juniors Rowing Club welcomes boys and girls aged 12-18 to join this fun and inclusive sport. The club runs learn to row courses throughout the summer as an introduction and would love to welcome new members from Cheney to the team in the future.
